Comforter: tips for storing it until next season.

He was the perfect companion in your bed during the cold months. Now, when the temperatures rise again, it’s time to put it away. As a result, many questions arise about what care is needed to store your comforter so that it doesn’t smell bad or deteriorate over time. To help you with this task, we’ve put together some tips for storing your comforters until next season.

How do you prepare your comforter for storage?
The main concern when storing a comforter until the next season should be that it is free of impurities, fungi, bacteria and stains. If you store these items carelessly, you could be deteriorating the quality of the fabric and the product or, worse still, storing dangerous bacteria in your closet.
Before storing your comforter, make sure it is clean and free of visible stains that could worsen over time, so wash it in your washing machine or at the dry cleaners. To avoid mistakes, if you wash it at home, follow the washing instructions on the labels, pay attention to all the symbols and make sure the garment is completely dry before storing it. Finally, make sure you fold the comforter properly so that it doesn’t get crumpled and take up unnecessary space.

Is your comforter completely clean and dry? If you answered yes, then it’s ready to be put away in your closet and only come out next season in the cold months. Here are 3 useful tips for saving it:

1. Sanitize the cupboard where you plan to store the comforter
It’s not enough to have the comforter properly cleaned and dried. You should also make sure that the storage space, particularly the shelves in the cupboard, are hygienic and have enough space. You can use a solution of water, vinegar and neutral detergent to disinfect the shelves and then wipe them down with a dry cloth. Let the room air out on a sunny day for a while and it will be ready to receive your comforters.

2. Use vacuum packaging
A comforter takes up a lot of space and what’s the best way to reduce that space? Through vacuum packaging. This will guarantee the preservation of fabrics, isolation from mould and other odours and also reduce the volume, which makes it easier to organize the closet. Avoid plastic bags that attract moisture, dust, fungi and bacteria.

3. Place the comforter at the top of the closet
Ideally, comforters should be stored as far away from sources of moisture as possible, so you should choose the highest areas of the closet. You can also use moisture absorbers, such as silica gel saucers (which should be changed every month).

Take advantage of the fact that we’re still in the transition period to start storing your comforters. This is the perfect time of year to ensure that next winter you’ll have sanitized comforters, free of dust and fungus and ready to use for a comfortable and cozy night’s sleep!
